Smooth Moves Studios is a movement art space that offers a variety of classes and events. We aim to build community while promoting overall wellness and artistic expression through movement. Our instructors are passionate about what they do and work hard to offer high quality instruction in a fun and inclusive atmosphere.

We at SMS are excited to introduce our newest class, Tiger Quest. Tiger Quest is a martial arts based mentoring program designed for grade school students. Beginning November 4th*, classes will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00-5:00pm. These classes will consist of structured play and learning time full of activities designed to push students both physically and mentally. Sifu Ben Brown has over a decade of experience running these classes and is excited to start offering them here.

We believe that dance is for everyone and strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where students can learn and grow in a supportive community. This class series was created for complete beginners. 75 minute classes allow ample time for us to share partner dancing basics as well as a detailed breakdown of Zouk footwork and foundational Zouk movements.
Bringing a partner is not required to attend this class, but we are offering discounts to those who come as a lead/follow pair!
$70/student or $110/pair
This class series is scheduled based on availability of interested students. If you are interested in future sessions, let us know!

We have TWO six week series:
Series #1 (weeks 1-6)
This class starts from the very beginning- showing students how to stand with a partner and continuing to the foundational zouk movements.
Series #2 (weeks 7-12)
This class is a continuation of the first six weeks. We accept brand new students*, but in this class we go over Zouk basics that we don't have time to cover in the first six weeks.
*One private lessons is recommended prior to this class if you did not attend Series #1

Connect with your breath in this martial art form often described as "meditation in motion." You will learn a variety of movements that help build balance, strength, and flow. This class is great for all ages and fitness/ability levels.
**It is recommended that you do one private lesson prior to jumping into our current Tai Chi classes, so that you can learn some basics and get more out of the class.
However, this is not a requirement and we are happy to have you in class either way!

BELLYDANCE FOUNDATIONS

Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm
Learn basic Egyptian dance technique! Gain muscle control and confidence in this fun, low impact dance class meant for people with little to no experience. The beginner class focuses on strengthening and perfecting muscle isolations while learning short dance combinations to Middle Eastern music. This is a low impact class that does not require a lot of getting on the floor (mostly standing in place or walking with movements)- all shapes/sizes/ages/fitness levels are welcome!

BELLYDANCE TECHNIQUE & CHOREOGRAPHY
Intermediate/Advanced
Tuesdays 6:30-7:30pm
This class focuses on layering multiple bellydance movements as well as playing with various timings and musicality. The class is part technique, part choreography. Students in this class are typically invited to perform if we have any upcoming shows (performing is not required).
BRAZILIAN ZOUK: Beyond Basics
Zouk Basics/ 6 week bootcamp recommended prior to this class
Wednesdays 6:30-7:30pm
This class solidifies and builds on the foundational zouk movements- exploring fun variations of the basics while working on our technique and flow. We generally begin with a footwork warmup, teach a partner combination (or two), and then end with a 2-3 song "dance party" to practice stringing everything together on the dance floor.
**We always welcome new students, but it is highly recommended that you attend a 6 week beginner series prior to joining the regular weekly class (specifically if you have no partner dancing experience). This will get you acquainted with the basics and make the movements in this (open level) class much easier to understand. We are also available for private lessons if that is preferred. We also have a Zouk Basics class which is more suitable to beginners.

BRAZILIAN ZOUK BASICS

Sundays 5:15-6:15pm
This class is a great continuation of our two 6 week foundation series. It is open to anyone, regardless of dance experience and is taught to a beginner level. You will get the most out of the class if you have attended a 6 week bootcamp first, but it is perfectly fine to jump into this class even without that prior knowledge.
No partner needed to attend- come dance with us!

BRAZILIAN ZOUK FOUNDATIONS: 6 WEEK BEGINNER SERIES

No dance experience? No problem! This class will focus on the basics of partner dancing and the foundational movements of Brazilian Zouk. Our beginner classes are 75 minutes long, giving us ample time to explain the footwork in detail and practice both solo and with a partner. Once we finish our studio rennovations, each 6 week series will end with an (optional) dance social event, so you can practice your new moves and meet some of the dancers in the other zouk class(es)!

All fitness levels welcome. Modifications are offered for each exercise but if you have trouble getting up and down from the floor, you may want to choose a different class.
PIIT stands for Pilates Intense Interval Training. This class uses a timer and consists of a dynamic warmup, 4 rounds of six exercises (alternating between strength and cardio), and a core burnout at the end. It combines the sculpting effects of Pilates with the dynamic fat burning power of HIIT to give you a truly body transforming workout in 28 minutes! You will need to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle.
We generally alternate between 3 class formats:
Ultimate Booty LIft, Abs of Envy, and Fat Burn Machine.
FIT AND FLIRTY

This class is focused on health, friendship, and feeling good in your body. The class includes stretching for pain management and flexibility, fun cardio dances for heart and health, and some flirty choreography inspired by burlesque dance. All shapes/sizes/ages/fitness levels are welcome.

BARRE INTENSITY®

Barre Intensity® combines attributes of Pilates, dance, and functional fitness training. We incorporate small, isolated movement to fatigue the muscles, large range motion to elevate the heart rate, and sequencing that incorporates upper and lower body to make every minute count. This results in a total body workout that leaves you mentally strong and feeling accomplished.

Short on time? This is the express version of the barre intensity class, with a shorter warmup and no shivasana at the end (which we like to do in the longer classes). Don't worry though, you will still get plenty of that barre burn!

RAQ THE BARRE by RAQISA®

Raq the Barre is a fun and effective barre fitness program blending ancient Middle Eastern movements into a modern full body barre workout! We match barre strength with Oriental dance grace! This class is a great workout with no bellydance experience needed- but if you do happen to be taking bellydance class, it WILL help strengthen your technique!

This class is formatted similarly to a yoga class, but goes through martial arts stances/forms. It is suitable for all fitness levels and is great for building strength and flexibility. This is meant as a drop-in class and is not part of the WSMAA curriculum/belt system.
WEST COAST SWING

West Coast swing is a partner dance that has its roots in Lindy Hop. It is a fun social dance that can be danced to almost any music (4/4 time). This class will focus on the foundational movements and build on them as students progress. Beginners always welcome.

EAST COAST SWING
Beginner

East coast swing (aka triple step swing) is a partner dance originating from the Lindy Hop. It is fairly simple footwork compared to other partner dances and is often danced interchangeably with other 6 or 8 count dances (lindy hop, charleston). This is a great partner dance to start with if you have never danced before- we will focus on the basic footwork and build from there as students progress. East Coast Swing is typically danced to fast swing music (although the movements themselves don't necessarily have to be fast).
